EDUCATORS ARE THE HEART
OF OUR LITERACY COMMUNITY

From early childhood through high school, we welcome you to the Oakland Literacy Coalition’s 6th Annual Literacy and Justice for All Symposium.

NEED FUNDING TO ATTEND OUR SYMPOSIUM?

SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are available and open to all participants wishing to attend. Classroom-based educators and school teams attending from any district are especially encouraged to apply.

Funding is limited and priority will be given to classroom educators located outside of Oakland and to educators who are interested and available in attending both days. Oakland educator registration is fully reimbursable through Oakland Ed Fund A-Z mini grant program.

  • Applications available starting on November 1, 2026

  • Scholarships Close: January 31, 2027

GRANTS FOR OAKLAND EDUCATORS

We’re excited to partner once again with the Oakland Ed Fund’s A to Z Mini-Grant program to help up to 50 Oakland educators attend the 2027 Literacy & Justice for All Symposium!

Tickets to the Symposium are on sale now! If you’re an Oakland educator hoping to attend, the A to Z Mini-Grant program offers two ways to seek funding to help cover your registration.

A to Z Mini-Grant application window: Wednesday, January 6–Monday, January 18, 2027

Option 1: Register Now (Recommended)

Purchase your Symposium ticket now to secure your spot! Then, apply for A to Z Mini-Grant reimbursement during the January application window.

This option gives you the best chance of both securing your spot at the Symposium and receiving funding.

Option 2: Wait Until January 2027

Wait to apply for an A to Z Mini-Grant before purchasing your Symposium ticket. Your ability to attend will depend on both ticket availability and grant funding. Since grant decisions may not be announced until mid-to-late January, neither funding nor a spot at the Symposium is guaranteed.

Please note: All grant decisions are made by the Oakland Ed Fund. The Oakland Literacy Coalition (OLC) cannot guarantee funding.

Who is eligible?

Any Oakland based public school educator. Anyone working at an Oakland public school or program (OUSD or charter-managed) is eligible to apply: teachers, principals, Community School Managers, afterschool providers, librarians, anyone! Must be available and commit to attend the entire conference on Saturday, March 6, 2027.

Please Note: Fall 2026 A-Z grant awardees are not eligible.

How do I apply for reimbursement?

Applications will be accepted during the A to Z Mini-Grant application window on the Oakland Ed Fund website.

Here's how to secure your spot:

  • Step 1: Register for the Literacy & Justice for All Symposium via our website.

  • Step 2: Email our symposium team at symposium@oaklandliteracycoalition.org and let them know you are interested in applying for reimbursement. This will help our team track how many educators are pursuing this offering.

  • Step 3: In January apply for reimbursement on the Oakland Ed Fund website.

  • Step 4: Make sure to attend the Symposium.

Please note that all grant decisions are made by the Oakland Ed Fund, and OLC cannot guarantee funding.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Oakland Literacy Coalition is pleased to partner with Teacher Friendly and University of the Pacific - Benerd College to provide graduate-level professional development credit for attendance at the Literacy & Justice for All Symposium. This unique partnership allows you to merge professional development opportunities with LJ4ALL with the option to earn graduate-level professional development credit for salary advancement and/or recertification. Check back soon for more details.

All attendees can request a certificate at the end of our symposium. Ask your district about how to apply for professional development equivalency units.
